Lori Johns Angel Won The First Drag Race
Lori Johns Angel is a female drag racer that is the result of an indulgent father that was also a professional drag racer. Throughout her career, the importance of family has been obvious and of true benefit for Lori – something that she happily admits to herself. Not only did her Dad first introduce her to drag racing when she was 3 years old but he also convinced her to learn more about cars, taught her the basics of racing, and bought her first professional drag car; this commitment to his daughter’s perhaps unusual choice in career has continued ever since.
The Tequila Sunrise was the name of Lori Johns Angel’s first drag car. It was a 1969 Chevrolet Nova, but this wasn’t the first car she raced in, nor was it the first car she won a race in. In fact, this honor goes to the 1982 4 speed Corvette that Lori owned at high school. In this car her Dad taught her to speed shift and they practiced down the side of the highway on the way to school. The practice obviously paid off, as Lori Johns Angel won the first drag race she entered using this very car.
It was only a short time after when Lori and her Dad bought her a new dragster – The Tequila Sunrise, which ran 10:20 seconds and 135mph over a quarter of a mile strip. Her next car, a custom built B-Econo Dragster has mixed memories for everybody concerned; Lori raced this car while at Texas A&M University but it was in this car that she broke her neck, resulting in a 6 month layoff wearing a cast throughout this time. However, this was not to be the end of Lori John Angel’s racing career, carrying on with a newly bought car on her recovery.
